STOUTBIERZEITEvent Date 02-28-2017 Event Time Starts Feb. 2!
This year’s Starkbierzeit will be known as STOUTbierzeit– we bet you can guess why. The winter solstice may be behind us, but there are dark days ahead. We are jumping on the Stout Month train (more like a pirate ship…) and pulling some kegs from the depths of our cellar for weekly tappings throughout the month.
The first flight on Feb. 2 will consist of four years of Firestone Walker’s Velvet Merkin, 2013-2016. It is a Bourbon barrel-aged imperial oatmeal stout.
The following week, on Feb. 9 will feature four versions of Fremont’s Dark Star, another imperial oatmeal stout. We will have 2016 and 2017 Bourbon Barrel, 2016 Spice Wars and 2016 Coffee Edition (all aged in Bourbon barrels) on tap– quite a flight!
On Feb. 16 we’re kicking it up a notch with 5 years of Deschutes’ The Abyss, 2012 though 2016. This barrel-aged imperial stout has been brewed since 2006 to much acclaim. It features a blend of some unusual ingredients: blackstrap molasses, brewer’s licorice, vanilla beans, and cherry bark. None of those stand out, but add layers of depth. The final product is a blend of beer aged in Bourbon, Oregon oak, Pinot Noir, and stainless steel.
Finally, on Feb. 22 we kick off the last weekend of STOUTBIERZEIT with the debut of Founders Brewing here in Eugene. Not only will we tap some great beers from the famed Grand Rapids, Michigan brewery, but we will pull some random gems from our cellar throughout the weekend.
